Tim Sloan

Hi 👋️, I'm Tim, a engineering manager and leader from near Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

I'm currently the VP Development at Paper Leaf | ZGM where we build software and products.

I write about miscellaneous software and tech related things. Opinions are my own and not the views of my employer.

I am a engineering and technology director with over 12 years of experience managing and growing technology organizations. I take pride in having strong leadership and communication skills, as well as being well-versed in project management and all stages of product development. In my previous role, I successfully drove year-over-year growth through participating in the full lifecycle of client/product development, from sales and marketing to project planning, design and UX, development, through to launch and growth. I am experienced in multiple programming and web scripting languages, with my primary focus being on Python.

Experience

I have been working in the technology industry for over 20 years. I have worked in a variety of roles, from developer to director to VP. I have worked in a variety of industries, from startups to healthcare to fintech.

VP Development, PMP, Paper Leaf, 2022 to Present

Accountable for the development team at Paper Leaf, including all development and technology-related decisions and deliverables. Responsible for technical estimation, implementation recommendation, and full-stack (front and back-end development) of websites, mobile apps, and web applications.

Technology Director, PMP, Lift Interactive, 2012 to 2022

Chief technology executive for the company responsible for the technical direction of the company, including architecture, technology, languages and infrastructure. Hire and manage technical resources. Overseeing the technical team, which includes assigning tasks, assuring quality, and verifying solutions.

Senior Developer, Lift Interactive, 2009 to 2012

Led teams of developers to complete web-based technology solutions. Focused on creating value for the end customer first, and then the work plan for the developer. Worked closely with the client to successfully complete the projects.

Owner, Sloan Consulting, 2001 to 2009

Principal and Consultant for a small consulting company focused on small business clientele. The one-time and long-term clients’ complex technical needs running the gamut of technical, operational and reputation.
